Why does this item have to be used with the towed vehicle’s engine running?

When the vehicle’s engine is not running, power assisted brakes and power steering (where fitted) will continue to work but will require much greater effort by the driver to steer and stop. Also note, without a running engine the use of lights and indicators on a vehicle will drain the battery. If unsure about any aspect of how to tow safely, you should consider using a professional recovery service.

Is this suitable to use if the brakes don't work on the vehicle that is to be towed?

This item is not suitable for use if the brakes are not working on the rear vehicle. Furthermore if is not suitable unless the engine can run on the rear car as without a running engine the brakes will not operate correctly.

Can the bar be fitted to a tow bar of the lead vehicle?

This product has been designed for use with the towing points of a vehicle and not a tow bar. I can thus not recommend using the item with a tow bar.

Does this item include an “on tow” sign?

Unfortunately, the 2-tonne tow bar and damper does not have a tow sign included.

Does this fit the standard 50mm towing ball?

This Tow Bar and Damper does not fit the standard 50mm towing ball, it instead fits the standard towing eye.
